This Friday,  1/29/16 at 7:30pm, U.C. Berkeley's Center for Japanese Studies, Department of Music, Department of Theater, Dance & Performance, and First Look Sonoma are partnering to produce a 30-minute workshop of my chamber opera Both Eyes Open with a libretto by Philip Kan Gotanda, and featuring singers John Duykers, Kalen Ung, actor Hesed Kim, and Marja Mutru and Joel Davel of the Paul Dresher Ensemble.  We will also be doing another music workshops of the entire 90-minute piece (scored for singers, actor, pierrot sextet and chorus) at the University of Nevada later this year.

Through haunting dreams and memories, Both Eyes Open tells the story of a Japanese-American farmer whose life was ripped apart after being interned during WWII.  A mythical character, the Daruma Doll, and the ghost of his wife, Catherine, come to life to guide him and pull him from the brink of despair.  We have been working on this project for several years and I'm thrilled it is finally coming to fruition!

Curtis Stewart will perform After Lightness for solo violin at the Cornelia Street Cafe at 8:30pm.  The piece was premiered by Antisocial Music and composed for Curtis in 2013.

5/23/14 - Alberta Rose Theatre, Portland OR. 

Third Angle New Music will give the world premiere of A Breath of Arches for string quartet and four MIDI foot controllers.  The piece was commissioned by the Third Angle/Russell New Ideas in Music Competition.

5/4/14 - Doc Rando Recital Hall - University of Nevada Las Vegas.
